On the evening of May 18, at the Hue University Hall, Hue Union of Science and Technology Associations (HUSTA) solemnly held the 10th Ceremony to Honor Distinguished Science and Technology Intellectuals in 2026. The event was part of a series of activities celebrating Vietnam Science, Technology and Innovation Day (May 18).
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue City, together with leaders of departments, agencies, sectors and organizations, representatives of Hue University and Hue Central Hospital, as well as distinguished scientists and intellectuals in the city.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue City, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
In his congratulatory remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan emphasized that the contingent of science and technology intellectuals has long played a pivotal role and served as a vital driving force in the development of the city in particular and the nation as a whole. He noted that the sustained organization of the Ceremony Honoring Outstanding Science and Technology Intellectuals over the past ten years has been of great significance. More than a platform for recognizing outstanding contributions, the event reflects the city’s strong commitment to fostering, recognizing and celebrating the contributions of the intellectual community to both local and national development.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan reaffirmed the city’s continued commitment to creating an enabling environment in which science and technology intellectuals can fully realize their expertise and potential. He expressed the city’s desire to further strengthen collaboration with the intellectual community in scientific research, innovation, digital transformation, high-quality human resource development and international cooperation, ensuring that valuable ideas and research outcomes are effectively translated into practical benefits for the community and the city’s sustainable development.

Dr.rer.nat. Ho Dac Thai Hoang, Chairman of HUSTA, delivered his opening remarks.
Dr.rer.nat. Ho Dac Thai Hoang emphasized that Hue’s intellectual community has made exceptionally important contributions to the development of both the city and the region, reinforcing Hue’s position as a centrally governed city.
He noted that Hue ranks third nationwide in terms of its intellectual workforce, after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The city is home to more than 300 distinguished educators and physicians honored with national titles, 45 honorary professors, 318 professors and associate professors affiliated with Hue University, nearly 1,043 PhD holders, 3,936 master’s degree holders, 7,787 university graduates, and 2,358 professionally trained personnel. Of these, more than 15,000 professionals are directly engaged in scientific research and innovation activities across science and technology fields.

The annual Ceremony Honoring Outstanding Science and Technology Intellectuals, organized by HUSTA under the direction of the City People’s Committee, reflects the Party’s and the State’s strong commitment to recognizing, valuing, and supporting the science and technology intellectual community. The event also honors the invaluable contributions of the science and technology intellectual community to advancing scientific and technological development and driving the socio-economic growth of Hue.
In 2026, HUSTA received 19 nominations submitted by organizations and institutions across the city. The Council selected 12 scientists, including two foreign intellectuals, to be honored with the title of Outstanding Science and Technology Intellectuals at the 10th Ceremony in 2026. The recognition represents a well-deserved tribute to their dedicated, rigorous and persistent commitment to scientific research, as well as their meaningful contributions to the socio-economic development of Hue. The award recognizes their outstanding dedication to scientific research and their significant contributions to the socio-economic advancement of Hue.

12 Outstanding Science and Technology Intellectuals were honored at the 10th Ceremony.
Over the course of ten editions, the city has honored 145 outstanding intellectuals, including 26 professors, 52 associate professors, 30 PhD holders, 18 master’s degree holders, and 19 distinguished scientists and experts. Notably, the honorees included 12 foreign professors and three foreign experts.
