The Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD) organized 03 training courses and practical practices for 25 women in 03 communities of A Lua village community (Tay Giang, Quang Nam province), and community of A Say village (Dong Giang), Quang Nam province) and the community of Dai Hong commune (Dai Loc, Quang Nam province).
The training courses aims to provide information and knowledge related to climate change, practice historical tools and timeline of natural disasters, draw disaster risk maps, analyze what has been done and not yet done in disaster prevention and mitigation of climate change impacts, … In addition to the knowledge provided, the practice of research tools helps women have better understanding on weaknesses, limited points, the prevention process before, during and after natural disaster occurs.

At the end of the training and practice courses, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Nhut (Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Co Co Commune – Dong Giang) shared: “We have gained a lot of practical knowledge through the training course. Research tools have helped us have a better understand about climate change and local response activities. This knowledge is essential, especially for women who are directly affected by natural disasters and climate change”.
Vietnam is a particularly vulnerable country due to the negative effects of climate change. Communities are increasingly vulnerable to climate change and the negative impacts are exacerbated by a combination of hydropower development and climate change. In 2019-2020, CSRD will conduct climate change research in 03 communities in Quang Nam province. Through these activities, CSRD wishes to offer solutions on how to apply the project results, convert experience from grassroots, and propose solutions to improve women’s capacity so that they can become motivators promoting sustainable development in the locality. The implementation of the project will enhance capacity, create conditions for local women to have sustainable solutions to handle problems and contribute to building a community which has enough capacity o cope with climate change; have more access to public services on finance and clean water resource through policy dialogue. The process on planning of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation will be difficult to achieve without women’s participation and contribution.
