Honoring 65 outstanding intellectuals of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Association (VUSTA) for the year 2017

In August 10th, 2017, in Hai Phong, the Conference honoring outstanding intellectuals of VUSTA for the year 2017 was held by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Association (VUSTA). This is the second time the outstanding intellectuals in the field of science and technology have been honored (the first time was organized in 2015).

This conference honored 65 intellectuals in the field of science and technology which were chosen from the emulation movements initiated by VUSTA during the last two years. Participants of the conference were representatives from Central Propaganda Department of Communist Party of Vietnam, Government Office of Vietnam, Ministries, sectors, provincial union of science and technology associations and honored outstanding intellectuals in the field of science and technology.

In his opening speech, Mr. Dang Vu Minh – President of VUSTA, on behalf of VUSTA’s Presidium confirmed: In recent years, VUSTA have always paid attention and regularly steered, guided and organized effectively the patriotic emulation movements in provincial unions of associations, sectors and organizations in science and technology; followed strictly the directives, guidelines of the Party, the policies and laws of the Government on renovating the emulation and rewarding, studying and following the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh in patriotic emulation and making members aware more accurately of the position and role of emulation and rewarding in the new context. Up to now, the patriotic emulation movement of VUSTA has grown up intensively and extensively, which in turn is the lever and great mental motivation for members to build up their enthusiasm, creativity, spirit of “dare to think, dare to do” and overcome difficulties to complete assigned missions.

Dr. Dang Vu Minh showed his expectation that those 65 honored outstanding intellectuals would continue to promote the achievements and raise the exemplary leadership role to push up the patriotic emulation movement in the apparel of 3 million members of VUSTA, contributing to the construction and defending of the nation.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh (Vice Chairman of Hai Phong People’s Committee) shared: Hai Phong is a city rich in culture and history, having many intellectuals in science and technology, and is the pride of Vietnamese citizens. It is pleasure for Hai Phong to be the venue to organize the Ceremony to honor Intellectuals in science and technology and Hai Phong is grateful for this event.

According to Mr. Pham Van Tan – Vice President cum General Secretary of VUSTA, during the last time, most of provincial unions of associations all over the country have implemented the evaluation and nomination of local outstanding intellectuals in science and technology, namely: the spreading of information on the purpose, meaning of honoring outstanding science and technology intellectuals; introduction of Regulations and Plan on honoring VUSTA’s outstanding intellectuals in the field of science and technology for the year 2017; organizing meeting for the Council to select the most outstanding intellectuals and submiting the documents to VUSTA promptly and correctly.

VUSTA collected the documents and summarized the achievements of 66 intellectuals from 61 provincial unions to submit to the Evaluation Council for VUSTA’s 2017 Outstanding intellectuals for consideration as regulated.

Among 65 honored outstanding intellectuals this time, there are 30 individuals academically ranking from Associate Professor, Doctor and above; 35 individuals with master degrees, bachelor degrees and equivalent; 09 of them are female, 54 of them are male; 02 individuals from ethnic minorities (Tay and Nung); 63 individuals are Kinh. The average age of those 65 individuals is 60,6 years old, there are 02 oldest ones who are 82 years old and 01 youngest male intellectual whose name is Pham Hong Phong (Doctorate degree), 40 years old, coming from Dien Bien Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, Principal of Dien Bien gifted high school and 01 youngest female intellectual whose name is Bui Thi Minh (B.A degree), 44 years old (she has been working for the Union for 22 years (General Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations). Those who have been chosen as the outstanding intellectuals in the field of science and technology have many achievements, contributions to the Union’s movement and scientific researches, consultancy and judgment, etc.
