The People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province has approved the project “Enhancing flood resilience for urban and coastal areas in Thua Thien Hue province” sponsored by Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Potsdam (Germany) with funding of nearly 4 billion VND.
The project has been received and implemented by Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD) under Thua Thien Hue Union of Science and Technology Associations.
The project’s goal is to enhance the resilience, adaptation to climate change, ecosystem-based natural disaster risks management and to enhance the women’s role in preventing natural disasters and adapting to climate change.
Main activities of the project include: valuation of the ecosystem based on adaptation: Mangrove forests in lagoons and propose the pilot project of growing mangrove forests in 2 to 3 sites; enhance flood resilience in urban and coastal areas by enhancing women’s roles in flood management; suggest investing in improvement, maintenance of the drainage system, natural water reservoir in Thua Thien Hue; hold seminars for students of Faculty of Geography – Hue University of Sciences to discuss the findings of the research on prevention of natural disasters in order to adapt to climate change…
