The Vallet Scholarship is formed from the voluntary contribution of Professor Odon Vallet at the University of Paris Sorbonne (France). This French professor put all of his inheritance in the bank, and the interest is taken out each year to give scholarships to young people who excel in their academic pursuits in France, Benin, and Vietnam. Professor Odon Vallet has given to the scholarship fund of the organization Meeting Vietnam in appreciation of the scientific and educational development initiatives of the organization. Professor Tran Thanh Van gave the grant the name “Vallet Scholarship” in honor of Professor Odon Vallet. This substantial scholarship has been running in Vietnam continually. Since 2001, the scholarship has been formally extended to the entire country through the “Meeting Vietnam” organization.
Continuously from 2001 through the present, for 22 consecutive years, Vietnamese students who are gifted or excel in research and study have had access to Vallet Scholarships. More than 50,000 scholarships worth more than 350 billion VND have already been given to students of difficult circumstances, ethnic minorities, and kids in SOS villages all around the nation. Each year, professors Odon Vallet, Tran Thanh Van, and Le Kim Ngoc go from Paris to Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Da Nang, Hue, Dong Hoi, Vinh, and Hanoi to personally hand out scholarships to each student. The association continues to provide a number of study encouragement scholarships for students of difficult circumstances and ethnic minorities living in remote and hilly regions of the Mekong Delta and the mountains of Vietnam, as well as the North and the Northwest, children from SOS communities across the nation, in addition to great students in urban areas.
The scholarship value is continually rising to cover the cost of living and educational expenses for each student, particularly to make up for the challenges brought on by the pandemic. The value of student scholarships increased from three to four million VND in the initial years to 26 million VND this year, 2022, compared to 20 million VND in 2021, and pupil scholarships are now 13 million VND (up from 11.5 million VND last year), with 2,100 scholarships. A total of 230 gifted students, including 150 pupils and 80 students studying at high schools and universities in the province, were awarded Vallet scholarships at the Vallet scholarship awarding ceremony 2022 at Thua Thien Hue, valued at more than 4 billion VND. The organization has supported numerous French scholarships, funded numerous libraries, and awarded more than 4,500 scholarships in the previous 20 years alone in the province of Thua Thien Hue.
